I don’t like weekends:traffic, stupid errands and golf on TV!

But the whole Michael not having to go to work is nice.

I Made: Some really good chicken enchilada casserole with green chile sauce. No recipe but about 9 corn tortillas, vidallia onion finely sliced and sauteed in oil,  finely diced cooked chicken (about 1 1/2 breasts) shredded sharp cheddar cheese and Carlino green chili sauce. Layered lasagna style and baked at 325 for an hour. Very good!

Finished: Little Duck Baby Blanket And started edging “The Dog!” blanket Pictures soon!

Watched: another strange film, Black Narcissus, 1947 from a novel by Rumer Godden About a group of Anglo nuns who set up shop in a palace high up in Darjeeling. It’s just old enough that the story has an undercurrent of that generation’s attitude that everything non white and Christian must be wickedly savage. The movie had a Buddhist holy man painted up to look like an “Abbo”- shirtless men pounding on drums in the bamboo jungles of Darjeeling (huh?) and more than one African Grey parrot, which I don’t understand because that’s definitely Mynah Bird country! Not Deborah Kerr’s finest. No stars- two question marks for this one

A Short Requiem: When I was at CSULB there was a whole bunch of guys that went around wearing field jackets from their previous military service. It was like they couldn’t let go of that experience. One I knew was this guy Jerry. He wasn’t a Vietnam vet because he was mid-thirties then.  He was a doper. I think he was going to school to get the GI bill. Didn’t know all that much about him except he was from Milwaukee, don’t know if he was ever married or had kids- just somebody I knew at school. But I remembered him the other day and curiosity got the better of me. Given the state he was in back in 1973 I figured by 2007 he’d have passed on. Yep, he was in the SocSecurity Death Index,  died in 1991. There’s a database for every veteran who’s served and where they are buried. So now I know a bit more. I don’t know how it happened that he died on New Year’s Eve, but I know he died in California and his final stop was a cemetary near Milwaukee. RIP Jerry- hope it was a good trip….

She Has Fun:I was up in a chatroom til 2 a.m. last night. I subscribe to the Streamlink for the radio show Coast2Coastam.  Comes with use of the bulletin board. For some reason, we don’t have an online chatroom,  but we get online at the same time and post back and forth. The guest on the show was talking about the RFK assassination, but collectively the people online to talk  didn’t want a downer. So it became our virtual 60’s party. Old people like me got to reminisce. One guy found me a picture of a Red 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner. I even met another woman a little younger than me that grew up in Lakewood- one town over! I’m like that character in a “My Name Is Earl” episode- I know all kinds of people, but more and more of them seem to live in cyberspace!
