Like a candle in the wind….

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Wow, ten years today. I can tell you where I was: I was on AOL in the women’s chat room. We were all shocked and stunned, frantically “talking” as the news unfolded. One reporter- whoever he was- called it right just a week or two before in “The Star”: the story was about how Diana’s life […]

Love is in the air
Everywhere I look around
Love is in the air
Every sight and every sound
-Love Is In the Air, John Paul Young, reached #7 on the Top 40 in 1978!

I’m really getting into “bug watching”. It’s  like bird watching without the feathers! The same flower beds all summer, but every few weeks a new “star” appears. […]

Vera’s tough night

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Vera  has allergies that manifest mostly as “ear trouble”. There was a whole lot of dog misery in the middle of the night last night. Sharpei’s have very narrow ear canals anyhow, and the allergy is like having ”congestion”, with lots of head shaking and pawing.  Hercules had his troubles too, but his was more itching skin […]

You’re the Empire Builder!
An admirer of Lewis & Clark, you have a firm belief in
Manifest Destiny. Your destiny has manifested itself in a northern and at
times desolate existence, but you don’t mind life on the mountainside with
snow and goats. Though your glory days are well past you, many still come
to visit you to talk about […]

Fall is coming!

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Yeah, yeah, school starts tomorrow. But check out the bug! There is a latticework overlay on our front window and yesterday two praying mantisses (manti?) decided it was a nice shady place to hang out. This fellow was fun. He seemed to be looking through the window to check us all out. In the early […]

A dog’s life…

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

We’ve had a week of what the weathermen call a “Stationary Front”  Very cloudy, but it came with a couple of inches of much needed rain. Today we’re back to heat and humidity.  Here’s VeraWang out on the deck catching some rays!

Upbeat Friday!

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Well after yesterday’s “Chinese taking over the world” post, I’ll try.
Film: Technically one was tv on dvd. It was the first disc in the “Best of Jack Paar”  collection. He was the king of late night before Johnny Carson. Back when there were only 3 networks, he was a very powerful cultural influence. This disc […]

Chinese Onions

When I wrote the intro page for this blog, I said I’d try to avoid religion and politics because it’s so inflammatory.  So consider this post an exploration of ideas. We live in a free country (kind of) so you can vote any way you choose.
In the groceries this week, I bought a package of […]

Dorie’s Diet, Day 1

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Get up, go in kitchen to make coffee. You have to see my coffee pot. Got it on Ebay and it’s great!  It’s a vintage 60’s Presto Electric coffeemaker. The world’s first “submersible” coffeepot, the Presto website says. I think it makes better coffee than the drip machines. (American made too!)
1.Grab a cookie, pour cup […]

Ode to the Laundromat

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Well, not really. The fact is I prefer it to doing the wash at home. The one in Westminster is very clean, nice machines, well-organized. I come in and feed the sacred machines quarters and leave in a little over an hour with clean, folded ready-to-go laundry! The two loads I did in the “double […]
