I had to look up “This Day in History” to see what this day is noted for. Um- World War I broke out in 1914. Columbus landed in South America- in 1498, like an afterthought. It’s Jerry Garcia’s birthday-he’d be elgible for Medicare this year.
I took a picture of the flower garden in front yesterday. We’re having a terrible drought and I’ve had to water to keep things going. Everything is tall and getting that wild “end of summer” look. The orange Asiatic lilies are in bloom; the hummingbirds like them. Lots of butterflies, big ones like Tiger Swallowtails. And making their summer debut, bumblebees! Hanging from the porch eaves, we have a wren house and the little family has hatched. The parents are zooming back and forth all day feeding the kids. One little one doesn’t wait for the bird to enter the house. He just sticks his head out for the delivery, so cute!
It’s all so colorful and makes me smile. Note that sneaky flamingo:
