Shooting Stars
Well, I missed the meteor shower! I set the alarm for 3:30 and intended to get up. I heard the alarm, but I was getting my beauty rest and just couldn’t get up! Maybe I can find some video in the news later. I don’t think it would have topped the Leonids meteor shower from a few years ago- there were so many it was like watching snowflakes come down. Pretty spectacular!
Happy Birthday to my Grandmother Hattie. Today is the 134th anniversary of her birth.
I have a feeling this is going to be Elvis Week. The 16th is the 30th anniversary of his death. I won’t say anything about time flying because for some reason it does feel like 30 years. It was a shame. In the end, he was a victim of his own fame. He had so many people on the payroll, basically supporting all his buddies and his whole extended family. Nobody was going to get on him to lose weight and go jogging- don’t mess with the man! People around him probably realized he was taking too many meds, but there was no Betty Ford Center back then. These days celebrities hire Life Coaches and go to posh rehabs. He’d be 72 if he were still around. He’d probably own a big hotel casino in Vegas and be rocking the house to this day.
The Butterly Hospice! At the Strong Museum in Rochester, New York there’s a special butterfly exhibit. You buy your ticket for a timed entry, and then you get to spend some time in awe as beautiful butterflies dance around you. We went there last summer. Very enjoyable! One bright little kid asked, “what happens if a butterfly gets sick?” Um- in some case you dread the answer. Not so here happily. I didn’t realize this but butterflies only live on average about four weeks. Gulp! But the people who work at the butterfly exhibit, scoop up the grounded or seemingly sick butterflies and put them in the Butterfly Hospice! There was an article about it in the Rochester newspaper. The butterflies continue to live behind the scenes, drinking nectar until their time to go decorate heaven. I like that! And it seems because they’re well-fed and appreciated (they’re entertainers after all) they actually live longer than wild butterflies. A nice answer for the little kid that asked.
