Harvest Moon Tonight!
Got Miss Goose all decorated for Fall. I don’t have costumes for her companion Ducky, so I’ve improvised and made him a vampire minion!
Fall Television: So far not very exciting. We enjoyed “The Big Bang Theory” in spite of ourselves. The adventures of two physicists and all their nerdy friends. It’s reinforcing every stereotyped image of geeky science types- but the guys are lovable. How can you hate a show that has a Periodic Table of the Elements shower curtain?
Kid Nation: Watched the first show. The kids are not typical kids- they’re very verbal/ GT types. It’s all scripted out; I guess they’re being compensated. A better show would have been Mom Nation- put a bunch of women together and make them get along for 40 days! I don’t understand how sisters in convents do it! House wasn’t very good last night. I like the character a lot so maybe it will pick up. Just in general I don’t like that so many tv dramas serialize the story line. I long for the olden days when one could tune in and watch a little play in it’s entirety every week.
Speaking of serial- I MISS MY SOAP! I got hooked on Passions a couple of years ago. It’s about a New England town, an immortal witch and some really evil humans. Back in the 17th Century, as they were burning the witch Tabitha, she cursed the family behind her burning. I guess she reanimates now and then and still lives in the town, stirring her pot to make sure things go well for “the boys in the basement” as she puts it. How can you hate a show with mermaids, demon elfs, dolls that come to life, and a Tsunami in Maine! Also, Tabitha wears the best Victorian crocheted/knitted stuff ever. The problem is, the show has moved to DirectTV and we don’t have that (yet, Michael!) I’m trying to keep up on the story by reading spoilers online. So if you have DirectTV and a VCR, take pity on me and send me a tape of Passions now and then.
Cooking! I hardly ever write about food. We have a long standing love/hate relationship. Yesterday, I made some low-fat biscuits. I used 1 c. oat bran flour, 2 T. melted butter, 1 t. baking powder and about 1/2 t. cream of tartar and 3/4 c. skim milk with a packet of TrueLemon added to it. Used about 1/3 c. white flour to roll them out. They came out flaky and tasty, and about 2.5 points each in diet terms. I need to work on getting the oven temp/timing right before I can take pictures! I think those biscuits in magazines are basted with oil, btw. Also, I skillet grilled some lovely Canadian salmon from Trader Joe’s. I put a bit of Ken’s Steakhouse honey/teriyaki marinade on the fish for sauce. TJ’s thankfully sells very affordable fish. And not from China! The closest store is about 20 miles away, but worth the drive. I’m going to start going there at least once a month. They don’t sell the legendary 3 Buck Chuck wine in Maryland though. We have odd liquor laws. It’s okay- to me, wine tastes like grape juice gone bad and I have to watch out for sulfites.

We really liked Chuck (monday night at 8). Premise sounded stupid, but we laughed a lot. I thought I’d like Cane but it dragged a lot.
