Slackers
Mike’s planned activity for the day is to go on the roof and clean the gutters. We have screens over most of it, but with tall maple trees next to the house, “stuff” gets in anyhow. I said, “as long are you’re up there, finish up the antenna wires” Mike put up a TV antenna with rotor, very fancy, about 1 1/2 yrs ago. But he got off the roof before he secured the wires. They’ve been draped along the roof, down the front of the house since then. I have nagged now and then, but he’s deathly afraid of heights. Fear being the mind killer and all, he has to be in the proper state to get up on the roof anyhow. Today is the day! Meanwhile, I’ve got some tidying to do in the kitchen, laundry to fold. So what have we both been doing, sitting here in the command center, futzing with the computers! After this, I’ll start with getting dressed! The longer I’m here, the more I’m slacking off, so I’d best hurry!
Book: I just finished Born on a Blue Day by Daniel Tammet. He’s a young Englishman with Aspberger’s, also considered “autistic savant” He’s pretty good at math, but what he’s really good with is languages. He goes into detail about how he visualizes thoughts and patterns. I don’t begin to understand, as for me thought is audio in my head, or now and then a movie with voiceover. What I enjoyed most is his stories of growing up, relating to his family and other people, and finding his place in the world. My nickname for Aspberger’s is “odd uncle syndrome” Some families have a member, usually male, unmarried, considered shy and not quite like the other adults. Daniel had a lot of support from his family. He found love and friendship, and lives an independent, interesting life. He’s not “handicapped”, he’s just different.
Crochet update:
Tesla is showing how far along “stripey and scalloped” has come. I’m trying to use up “stash on hand” yarn. I cheated and bought more black though. The challenge will be trying to keep the colors interesting, not too repetitive as I use up things on hand.
