Hitchhiking Bacteria….
I read an interesting article about germy things in our everyday lives. #1 Nastiest Thing in the House is the Kitchen Sink. It’s full of hot water and food particles and stuff likes to grow in the drain–yuck, yuck! Another one I sort of knew, but forgot about is that just handing dirty laundry a person can pick up all sorts of germs from the rest of the family. So often, I sort the clothes, start the machine and go on to the next thing. I guess the next thing should be hand washing. The biggest surprise to me on the list is women’s purses. Problem is we put them down everywhere- like on the floor of the loo when there isn’t a hook, etc. Invariably, I come home and plunk the purse down on the kitchen table, or worse yet, the counter! I never thought much about germy purses. Couldn’t hurt to give them a spritz of Lysol now and then I suppose.
I can remember that well into the 1950’s when a woman was dressed up and going out she’d wear gloves- cotton in spring/summer and wool or leather in winter. Some of that was fashion. But perhaps it cut down on sharing our microbes. When SARS was spreading a couple of years ago, face masks were the new hot fashion accessory!
