Just Tuesday….

My Fortune Cookie told me:
You have a blossoming future in taxidermy.
Get a cookie from Miss Fortune

The funny, funny thing is, I was just reading about taxidermy! Alan Alda has written a memoir called, Never Have Your Dog Stuffed. When he was a boy, the family dog died. His dad, trying to be helpful, took the dog to the taxidermist. When the dog came back mounted on a base it was truly terrifying.  There’s some skill involved. Hmm, how to put it delicately? The outside of the critter is preserved and what’s inside is a wire frame. So next time you see a stuffed tiger in a museum, when you get over your bad about the dead tiger, do remember that taxidermist that skillfully got it together to look like a tiger!

We got another bread machine a few weeks ago. It’s baking a loaf of raisin even as I type!  The old one fell off the counter and the electronics broke! They’re nice to have. Yes, I can make bread “by hand” but this is the Digital Age! Just measure and push buttons. Mike wants to know what buttons I need to push to make cinnamon buns. I told him this is a no-nonsense utilitarian bread machine.

Knitting: a sock! It’s slow going. Still learning as I go along. The heel is done but I’m working on the little double pointed needles and it’s easy to drop stitches. On the plus side, I get to work with really nice yarn. A sweater for me would be like 30 balls of yarn (conservatively!) But a pair of socks, I can do fancy!

Oh, speaking of which, the  afghan coverlet I crocheted  to use up acrylic yarn hanging about here  is done and on the bed!tesafghan2.jpg This is Tesla enjoying the new covers. I made the rainbow star pillowcases to sort-of match. Wish I could find a set of sheets in a bright color, like lime- it would be just the thing!

Tes’ looks wistful in the picture. With the “cast” in his eyes and the graying muzzle, he looks like an old dog. But he’s only six years old! He must have a rapid aging gene.

I don’t like getting older! Yes, I do go on about this, but I’m trying to find my way. Act One was growing up, getting educated. Act Two was marriage and raising my now grown-up child. I strongly suspect Act Three to be getting old and sick, perhaps broke, and living in a refrigerator box and it worries me (a lot!)
Well by way of trying to think positive, I looked up a bunch of people the same age as me- born in 1953. Here’s some notables:
Tony Blair (I like him!)
Pat Benatar (Rock and Roll!)
Geddy Lee of Rush (yay!)
Colm Meaney (Mr. O’Brien from Star Trek)
Benazir Bhutto (in the news of late)
Paul Allen (that other co-founder of Microsoft)
and even Hulk Hogan! So all those people definitely aren’t kids, certainly middle-aged. But when I look at them, I don’t think “old lady” or “old man” , and I feel a little better!

One Response to “Just Tuesday….”

All of those people are exactly one year older than me. Kind of surprised about Pat Benatar though. I always thought she was younger.
