new and different

This blog is going to collapse on itself if all the YouTube videos disappear! This morning I was looking for Christmas carols. This is not one.

This is the first time I’ve seen this gal. Her name is Ruslana. She’s  from Ukraine.  She won the Eurovision song contest in 2004, and records in English too. Her sound and presentation is so cool- like MTV meets Xena, Warrior Princess.  Nice mix of pop,  with ethnic identity. And yes, that is a Cossack dancing around with a sword- what’s not to like?  (bye Britney)

An Update Was Requested:  Sure- here’s a picture of the Trinity Shawl in progress- all triangular and everything. trinshawl.jpgIt would make a nice shawl for a 4 year old now; lots more knitting to go! The pattern isn’t that complicated, but it seems slow going. I like the “black cherry” color!
Books: Just finished The Tell-Tale Hound by Rita Mae Brown Another murder mystery set in Virginia with the fox hunting set . I’ve liked all the series. It’s like reading about life in another country, yet only maybe 100 miles from here!
Movies: Watched a couple that make you feel good. Amazing Grace is about William Wilberforce and the abolition of slavery in the British Empire. It is a bit like watching PBS, but it’s an important tale- inspirational, even. And then we watched Miss Potter which is just charming. Renee Zellweger as Beatrix Potter. There’s animation, but not cutesy. A movie the whole family could watch, but not juvenille.
