Year in Review, part 1
Really annoying things that happened this year
1. Britney Spears’ Circus and Trainwreck She could go anywhere or do anything- like a Mother Teresa of Pop Culture. Instead she shaves her head and drives around recklessly with babies in her car. Enough already. We get it, money and fame can’t buy happiness. Take your money and go far away Brit! Or better yet, send me some and let me be miserable for a while.
2. Anna Nicole Media Circus and Trainwreck It’s not Anna’s fault her sad ending became such a tedious news story. I guess it was the fight over the baby’s paternity, or her mysterious death coming so soon after her son’s death. It was a tragedy; I should feel compassion for her. If I never hear her name again- well, you know…
which sort of leads into Item 3-
3. Celebrity News Shows/Blogs/Tabloids Too many people famous for being famous. There was a time when the news outlets covered the work of people in show business- new records, films, etc. Now it’s all about “who’s in Rehab this week” Not to mention the mainstream media cover important stories like Paris Goes To Jail Mrs. Average American (I’m nothing if not average) remains woefully ignorant on really important issues, like: War, Famine, Pestilence and Death
4. Drug Commercials I’d almost welcome back cigarette commercials with catchy jingles in place of this never ending medicine show. It’s imposible to watch network television now without seeing a commercial for a prescription drug. Are we all so sick? Maybe there’s that much money being made. I smell a rat.
5. Lame Reality Shows Come on, dueling choirs? Last night I had to turn off “The Singing Bee” because the contestant flubbed the lyrics to the Gilligan’s Island Theme- how pathetic. Michael says he’d enjoy a reality show that involved beautiful women and bathtubs- how about The Amazing Victoria’s Secret Bathtub Race?
I decided to start with negative and work up to positive things. Looking at this little list I see a solution to my annoyance- kill the television. Hmmmmm
