Mars and Crayola

Have you heard about the asteroid? Astronomers have just upped the odds of a major asteroid impact on Mars this coming month; it’s now a 1 in 4 chance. Supposed to happen (if it happens) on January 30. What the press is saying is, that it’s big enough that were something this size to hit Earth, it would  be a major disaster. Even if it landed in the ocean, certainly a tsunami would result. But it’s only Mars (grin), so they’ll take pictures.
Astrologers say that Mars is now in “retrograde” Not that I understand this, but to those who watch it day to day, it looks like it’s going backwards in the sky. Supposedly a bad time for major projects; hard on power equipment and appliances too. Yesterday we had the handle of the “main” toilet (toilet v. 1.a) in the house snap off. Mike suggests we offer some Mars bars to the gods to appease them. It would be a difficult sacrifice- they’re called “Snickers Almond Bars” in the US these days. Still “Mars Bars” in the UK though. We’d just have to hop a plane.

Michael calls me “Doom and Gloom Dorie” but I do follow major events and disasters in the news quite a bit. (note earthquake reporter in the sidebar there) I’ve even found a “asteroid impact calculator” What I learned is that the scope of the damage, along with size, is also determined by what the asteroid is made from- metal being the worst. I calculated a mile-wide iron asteroid to hit Baltimore. Out here in Carroll County, we’d be right on the edge of the impact crater- but we’d be gone, because the “concussive wind” would be over 1000 mph. It would probably blow most of North America away. Good thing it isn’t going to happen anytime soon!

In lighter news. I read something about the Designer’s “color of choice” for 2008. It’s light blue, but with a touch of lilac- like periwinkle, or delphinium: forgetmeknot.jpg

Very pretty. Wore a dress this color to the marriage of the Grand Duke and Duchess. I’m not sure I’d want a whole kitchen this color.

Apart from bright emerald green, which I love but don’t usually wear, this is my favorite color: peachrose.jpgPeach, or perhaps Mai-Tai…Tahitian Sunset??? It’s warm and happy. I’d wear a shawl this color. I’d like a car this color.

Another “trendy” news item I’ve  read says that the most popular color for cars these days is white. How ordinary. Cars used to come in better colors! When we were kids, my friend MerryAnn’s parents had a pink and white DeSoto. Remember the blue and white 1957 Chevy?  The 2008 blue iris color would never catch on for cars. I recall seeing some Plymouth Neons that color 7/8 years ago. I still smile when I see a purple Ford Escort going down the road.

But a Jaguar in Mai-Tai Metalflake- I like it!
