Constellation Energy Time

HEY! It’s cold today. The high is going to be 32 (or 0 as it’s known some places) It doesn’t seem to be windy, so that’s a plus. We have a “time of use” plan for the electric. What happens is, there are peak and off peak rates.  I try to do things involving energy at the off-peak rate. So lots of times I’ll put a load of washing in at bedtime and get up and throw it in the dryer before 8 a.m- when the highest rate of the day kicks in. I’ve been up since 4- feel like a farmer anymore! Whoever built our house put a big bow window in the kitchen facing East, so the sun streams in all morning. The dogs love it- they find a sunbeam and enjoy the radiant heat!

Caucus Schmackus- Today is the first big event of the election year.  I’ve been through Iowa once- it’s nice, lots of corn and stuff. Not to belittle the people of Iowa, but I may end up killing the TV yet because I’m already tired of election 2008. Get so tired of all the partisan spitting. On the plus side- and this is pretty exciting- this is the first election since 1928 that a standing Prez or Vice-Prez isn’t running.  So the first time in my ancient lifetime that it’s a wide-open election. It’s interesting that a year ago people thought the big issue would be Iraq, but now it looks like it’s going to be the Economy. So shallow of me, but have to confess, I always “vote by pocketbook” I ask myself, “are we better or worse off than four years ago?” If better, of course the incumbent leadership looks good to me, if not- they get the thumbs down. I think this is going to be a big year for change!

The Most Handsome Man Ever: Has nothing to do with current events but I remembered this today. We were at the airport going somewhere one summer. The airport had boy scouts all over the place. The big national Jamboree in Virginia had just concluded. We were at the gate waiting area with a whole bunch of scouts from Hawaii. One of the things I’ve always admired about the boy scouts is their pride in wearing the uniform everywhere. The girl scouts get to a certain age and they won’t do it-just reluctantly wear a badge sash.
hibiscus.jpgOne of the scoutmasters caught my eye- wearing the standard issue uniform with a nice seashell lei for the island look. I couldn’t tell you how old he was, but he had below shoulder length white hair.  And he was sort of a color of brown and gold. Wow- he looked like the King of the Pacific; all of Hawaii in one package. His daughters and granddaughters were probably gorgeous island princesses. Golly if he was just an average guy over there, I need to visit!
