Nothing for the Roadshow
The Antiques Roadshow on PBS tonight is the first of the new episodes taped in Baltimore hon! I wasn’t there. Sadly, I realize that I don’t have one thing in the house that might be mistaken for a treasure.
I have one almost 200 year old coin. But it’s not all that rare and worth about $100. I have an RCA Nipper dog- with the ear chipped! At least 20 years’ worth of the little figurines put in packages of Red Rose Tea- I could get $5 for that on Ebay.
At this point in Life, I realize I have a whole bunch of old, not very valuable stuff.
We’re planning on moving about five years from now. It’s going to take that long to get the house cleaned out. Clothes that haven’t fit for ten years. We have dishes (fancy kind) we hardly ever use. Half used cans of paint (never know when you might get the urge to crack open an old can of paint!)
I have a lot of craft things. I’ve been trying to get things organized by using those big plastic boxes. Lots of them- box of yarn, box of fabric, etc. I think my Star Trek stuff is pretty well organized. All the books are in a bookcase and fan fiction, collectibles, action figures, etc. are in a plastic box too. I’ve thought about renting a space at an antique mall to sell some of my junk. The trouble with Star Trek stuff is that the people who like it are about my age. They they have their own stuff cluttering up the place!
While I wasn’t looking, things have been getting scary down in the basement. My husband collects too. Cords, computer cables, old keyboards- the artifacts from his 30+ years in the electronics business. Part of it I suppose is that electronic things start out so expensive. Our first PC cost about $2000! Now they’re appearing on scrap heaps everywhere! Need a drive? I just counted FIVE of them, all small and out of date by today’s standards.
I didn’t realize just how much stuff fell into the “they were just going to throw it away and I might need it for something” category has been coming into the house!
I found two metal hinges in his lunch box last week. We’re not hanging doors anytime soon. When I saw those in the lunch box, I acted like I’d found a scorpion! For the last two workdays, I’ve packed the lunch around those hinges because they have been denied access into the house! Guess I’ll start getting him plastic boxes.
Anyhow, I’ll be watching the Roadshow tonight. Maybe a Panasonic printer circa 1983 is collectible.

My wife and I are a perfect pair. She collects everything and I throw everything away. Somewhere in there, there is balance.
