Muse Blues
My blogging muse seems to have left me over the weekend. Rather than just put up memes, I just took a wee break.
I wonder how many 911 calls there were in Wisconsin Saturday afternoon? Saturday, I got myself all settled to watch the Packers play Seattle in the playoff game and then wham! Two turnovers with in the first two minutes of the game! By the same player! Not a happy feeling. If I wrote it like a sports commentator…. “Despite two disastrous fumbles leading to touchdowns for Seattle, Ryan Grant rushed over 200 yards leading the Packers to a 42-20 victory over the Hawks. “ Next week they play the Giants (booooo!) at Lambeau Field.
I think all Boston and NYC teams- baseball, football, even rugby, should form a North East league and just play each other. It bugs me, especially with football, to have one or two teams dominating. I like the “on any Sunday” idea; that the teams are pretty evenly matched and ya never know how it’s going to turn out. But the Patriots seem to be far and away over the other teams this year. You never know, but I won’t be surprised if they’re the champions.
Worthless Blog! Well I never! I linked my blog to a “what is your blog worth?” gizmo and it said it wasn’t worth anything! Perhaps I’m naive about how this works. I know that there are bloggers out there making money from their blog. If you click on it, they get money. Or they have widgets that link to commercial sites and they get money if you go there. I’ve even seen PayPal links.: the always modest “if you like what you read there, send me some money” format. I wouldn’t mind having a widget or two for my “causes” Hmmm- maybe I’ll write the Salvation Army and see if they have a widget.
Anyhow, maybe my blog isn’t worth money because I’m not plugging stuff. Okay, I’ll plug a couple of girl things: I have a hemangioma on my face (remember that red mark on Gorbachev’s forehead?) Nothing serious, but I like it covered up because people ask questions. For many years I’ve been the most satisfied customer of Dermablend www.dermablend.com It is just the best. They make several different concealment products to give a person a boost if they want a scar covered, or in my case a red birthmark, etc.
Also, they probably don’t need any help from me, but the finest mascara on the planet is Definicils by Lancome. Most women use something to color and lengthen their lashes, but difference with Definicils is dramatic. It costs about $24 a tube, totally worth a small beauty splurge now and again.
So there. NOW is my blog worth anything?
Film: Over the weekend, I watched a British romantic comedy, Making Waves, about a group of amateur radio operators. It’s a comedy of errors because, like the Internet, the people on the radio lie to make their lives more exciting. There’s a guy that runs a video store that says he’s a photojournalist. A dental technician that says she’s an ornithologist. There’s one lonely wild cosmonaut up in Mir. And the great Robert Hardy plays an Anglican bishop that gets on air and pretends he’s a vicar of a tiny country church. Chaos when reality gets in the way- it was cute.
Also watched Arctic Tale It reminded me of the nature films Disney used to make. Cute baby polar bears and a baby walrus. But it wasn’t a documentary, in that they gave the animals names and told a story. I’m not sure if it’s true or they just strung film together to make the story. It had a “stop global warming and save the cute animals” message for the children.
While I personally think Global Warming is a problem, I’m not sure how telling middle class American kids to use flourescent bulbs will save the baby polar bears. It makes us feel better to be taking action. Chances are though, that the thousands of coal fired power plants in China are doing more damage to the planet than our light bulbs. I think unless there’s an immediate crisis like starvation, or a new Ice Age, there are big populations in the world that are several decades away from being concerned about the environment. Really cute animals though.
