I guess I’ll survive
GGGGgggreeen Bay Lost!
At least it was way close. I have to admit that the Giants come up with good kickers. (I used to be inordinately fond of Ali Hagji Sheik- I think it’s because I expected him to come onto the field on a flying carpet. ) Oh well, next they have THE BIG GAME Why don’t they have it in New Haven and call it the Yankee Bowl? Sure would save jet fuel. I don’t care who wins- the Patriots I suppose. If I watch it at all, like a lot of people it will be to check out the commercials.
But a couple of years ago, when they had a championship season, I started getting interested in Maryland Lady Terrapins basketball. Lady turtles, what’s not to like? Anyhow, they won over Georgia Tech last night and are #4 nationally-not too shabby. I find women’s basketball more interesting than men’s- seems like there’s more action on the court. By way of disclosure I wish to point out I was a history major that never played any sport. So I’m just another sofa sitting sports watcher (and not all that big one at that!)
Watched some Films: A couple of classics. King’s Row- what a soap opera it was! Starred a very young Robert Cummings (Love That Bob!) with Claude Rains and Ronald Reagan in what is considered his finest role. He was pretty good. Also watched Ball of Fire, a comedy starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. It was fun because there were a lot of older men playing college professors, so the actors were contract players that you’d recognize, but wouldn’t remember their names. The Wizard was in it- what was his name, Frank something? Practically new, yesterday we watched Stardust. It reminded me a lot of The Princess Bride, with a bit of Time Bandits thrown in. I don’t think I’d seen Sienna Miller in a movie before- wow she’s pretty. DeNiro has a cameo as a pirate Captain Shakespeare and he’s a real hoot.
Knitting: Finished the Vest, but now it’s a UFO (unfinished object) Just a matter of stitching the pieces together, but that’s harder than it looks because you want it secure, but not with stitches hanging out all over the place. I picked up the pink sock I started. I really need some new socks, so it’s hustle time. I read something that during WWII in Canada, they asked knitters to make socks for the troops (as the US did) but they also asked that if the knitter couldn’t get them done in 3 weeks, maybe pass that yarn onto a faster knitter!
Vera, Aloof Dog: Vera is the most aloof dog I’ve ever known.
Not unfriendly or aggressive, but she keeps her distance. Not a face-licking, jump up and down kind of girl. Sometimes I call her “Vera Cat” Last night, she had to go out after we’d gone to bed. When she got in, she took her place as usual at the foot of the bed. She was freezing and shuddering so hard I could feel it. But just not her style to crawl up between us where she could warm up faster. It’s such a contrast to our Jack Russell, the late Empress Bardula.
She liked to get all the way under the covers, and get down to the foot of the bed. It was like having a dog for a hot water bottle. But she got all growly and unpleasant if you accidently kicked her- sort of a snappy hot water bottle. Tesla is so long he needs to stretch out. He likes a cuddle, but there’s not a lot of room in our bed, so he stretches out on the sofa or on the guest room bed. He looks like a person laying there he’s so big!
