Pink Moment….

My big American feet wanted some girly pink socks! pinksox.jpgAnd I’ve rounded the heel and headed for the home stretch! It’s a “diamond” pattern that repeats over 4 rows. I’m finding that lots of the lovely lacy patterns have so many different lines of pattern that they task my brain! 4 rows I can handle. The yarn is Snuggly by Sirdar, an acrylic-nylon blend. This is the first time I’ve used British DK weight yarn- and I really like it! Regular “worsted” weight yarn would have turned these into slipper socks. With this yarn, the sock has some cushion to it, but will still be comfy with shoes.

Wondering about Weather: On the news when they do the morning forecast, they always  remind us of the high and low temps for this date. They said this date was something like -3 F in 1987. The tiny Duchess would have been in preschool; chances are school was cancelled that day because that’s life endangering cold in Maryland. Certainly not in Canada or the UP of Michigan- but we’re wimpier down here. It’s south of the Mason-Dixon line and all. I found some pictures of a “big snow” event in 2003. I think we got 12-14″ of fluffy white stuff and then it melted off right away. Now I’m wondering if the cold and icy days are behind us for the next couple of decades.

Dean Koontz: I’ve been listening to the CD of his new book, The Darkest Evening of the Year. It’s full of suspense, but I know everything will turn out in the end. It’s just that he writes evil so well- cruel, crazy evil. Especially heartless psychopathic types! Sometimes when I read his books I want to throw down the book and run away from the crazy! This book is his tribute of love to his late Golden Retriever. Now I’m in “uh-oh” mode wondering if something awful will happen to a dog- hope not.
I think as dogs go, I’m a bit of a Golden, perhaps a Bassett Hound. I want to be comfortable, I love to play and I’m not very likely to bite unless tormented.

Don’t tell anybody- they’ll put me in a home! I did stupid the other day. I was making tea and have (had) an old fashioned Revere whistling tea kettle. I poured the water in the cup and went on my way. Except I put the kettle back on the still turned on burner. The smoke detector roused me out of my daydream! Tesla was so funny! He went in the bathroom- normally not his favorite place- and sat right next to the bathtub. It was like, “there’s water here, I’ll be safe while Mom burns the house down” When the smoke cleared, I thought maybe the kettle could be cleaned up and saved. But no-, the copper bottom was burned clear through!
Oh well, this Thursday is our 33rd anniversary. I looked up the traditional gift: amethyst. Nice, but I’d rather have a new tea kettle. So I ordered a jazzy electric one which will heat up the water in record time. Most importantly, it has a shut off feature so the kettle won’t boil dry!
Then I told Pirate Mike that’s what he got me for our anniversary! ;-)

Happy Anniversary! 33 years huh? I think I got you beat by one year, but I’m to lazy to bring out the calculator:)

Get your husband to take you out for dinner…then put the kettle to the metal and blow that pop stand!
