19th Amendment Scandal

Don’t tell the shades of my grandmothers: I’m not going to vote in the Primary election. I’ll tell you why. I’m a registered Libertarian here in the Free State. A few months ago, I may have told you, I got a postcard from the LP urging me to register as GOP so I could vote for Ron Paul in the primary election.  Ron Paul has run for President before on the Libertarian ticket. I like RP very much, but no- never going to Nixon’s party, thank you. I was viewing the sample ballot in the paper this week and there’s no sample ballot for the LP. I’m wondering if the party imploded itself; they have to have a certain number of party registrations to appear on the ballot. The question is, will they be there in November, or no more LP in Maryland?

Which leaves me with the “nonpartisan primary ballot”- one item- vote for 2 school board members. I’ll talk about education another day. But anyhow, I read the profiles of the people running. They’re all saying the same things: smaller class size, more money for teachers. Ja sure. They’re not saying the things that concern me- that the administrators are ridiculously overpaid (they say it’s a competitive salary) and the school system has a tendancy to latch on to every educational fad out there. They think they’re progressive, but I think they’re lemmings. If I had a school aged child these days, the child would be in private school or homeschooled. Can’t remember who said it, George Carlin perhaps: Never let school get in the way of your education.

As for my grannies, they were grown women before women were assured the right to vote by the 19th amendment. So, I feel it’s important to vote just because we have the right. I will- just maybe, this time around in November.

Getting ready for a Royal Visit: Unless her flight gets cancelled by icy weather, the Grand Duchess is arriving tomorrow to visit for a week. Oh boy! I laugh a bit to think that a visit to Maryland is a winter break. It’s not exactly Miami, but it’s warmer than Upstate New York anyhow. We can cook and knit and shop and watch chick movies! It’ll be great. Too bad we’re both broke, otherwise we could go to Charlestown and play the slots!

Worse Than Katrina They’re having a horrible winter in China.  The Lunar New Year is next week and it’s like Thanksgiving here- biggest travel time of the year. The workers in the cities take time off and go visit their families. It’s been all over the news this week that MILLIONS  of people are stranded. One news report said there were 200,000 people in the railway terminal in Beijing trying to get somewhere. Awful. Maybe prayers would help. All those people just trying to go home, or maybe get anywhere at this point. They need some help!

Travel in China is bad enough without bad weather. I simply can’t imagine what it’s like when there is bad weather.
