The journey of a thousand miles, yada yada
Well, the Grand Duchess arrived safely Saturday morning and we’ve been having a fabulous time. Pajama party every night! She’s got her parents off their kiesters and we’re doing a bit of kitchen rehabbing. My first mistake was not having enough boxes on hand- so there’s piles of kitchen things to sift through. Secondly, I should have left town- I get weird when I can’t go to the cupboard and have my stuff waiting for me. It’s just for a couple of days, I’ll survive.
The white painted cabinets are being painted a more countrified denim blue. That’s the idea- a country kitchen in a country style house. We’re attending to important design trends:, like don’t slap paint over the brass hinges. She used to work at a Country Curtains store so she knows much more about valances, rods, etc than I ever have. We’ve got some “Calais lace” curtains on order- just simple ecru because we like our morning light.
It’s tough for me at times because I know my taste always runs to “whimsy”- like I’d totally love cow print curtains. Or shabby Tiki- my favorite! But the plan is, if we sell the house in the new few years, try to have fewer “oh my goodness” moments for the prospective buyers. Last year, I re-did the bedroom and it’s very Andrew Wyeth-ish now. Oak furniture and I can easily stash things, like my striped topper away, in favor of a plain vanilla coverlet for show.
I’ll put up pictures later in the week. You wouldn’t want to see it now. It’s scary.
Talk to ya later!
