Secret of Universe Discovered, film at 11

I figured it out: MOVE EVERY FIVE YEARS! When you move into a house, a new home (lovely) or a resale home, it’s been “fixed”. The big stuff has been repaired. Obvious flaws like tatty carpet will be replaced. So when you move in, the house is in decent shape. In five years, you might have a major hiccup- like the air conditioning goes out. But comes time to sell and move on, you wouldn’t be looking at $50K worth of house rehabbing! On the other hand, there’s Dorie & Mike who have lived here on Poignant Acres (that’s the actual name of the development!) for 19 years in a 34 year old house that easily could use that rehabbing. Hmmm- what’s to do with the $1000 rebate? I’m thinking run away! I imagine lots of people would like to sell out and move, but with the market what it is now, best sit tight. Another plan is never move and let the kids figure out what they want to do when they sell the house as part of the estate. We have an only daughter, so I’m trying to be nice to her and not leave her a mountain of junk in funky house.

The kitchen project is not done, but much improved! Bright painted cabinets in a tasteful color. The curtains have arrived. I’ve decided to paint the wall around the bow window, so the new window treatment might be up by next weekend.

Today is errand day. Daughter and I found time to go to Trader Joe’s. If there’s one near you, you must go there! Everything they sell is high-quality, and consistently cheaper. All organic or all-natural too! She found a whole bunch of her favorites and these goodies, combined with things I gave her make up one big, heavy box that’s going out UPS today. It must be done today because she sacrificed some of her clothes that would be in the suitcase, to make room for things like the big heavy McCall’s cookbook I scored for her! But that cute little chicken puppet got to go in the carry on!

Film!
There was less movie viewing around here with the project but here’s an update. First we watched Bride and Prejudice, an Anglo-Indian “Bollywoodized” version of the classic. It’s bright and musical. From the producer of Bend It Like Beckham. Also, we started watching Robbie Coltrane’s series from the 90’s, Cracker. It’s dark drama, with a bit of humor. Coltrane’s character, Fitz, is likeable- despite his drinking, gambling addiction, marital troubles. Oh yeah, he’s a psychologist and fixes people :-) Then a rerun for me- very appropriate for Lent, Chocolat! Mike hadn’t seen it before, and I didn’t mind seeing Juliette Binoche again. I find myself craving some of those chocolate/hot pepper triangles, where can I get them? What a nice little film.

Short Survey: We want to switch to an Internet phone service. We’ve heard good things about Vonage. If you would recommend another company or have had a bad experience, please post a comment. Thanks!

A bit of knitting: Still working on “lacy mock cable” sock, in KnitPicks Essentials’ Meteor Twist. Going to be a great looking sock. I have a standing policy of no photos until the heel is done, so hopefully I’ll brag a bit later in the week.
