An Ceiling Cat sayz, i can haz lite?

That’s Genesis Chapter 1, Verse 3 in LOL Cat! notgoingout1.jpgThe whole Bible has been translated into cat language. My links aren’t working for some reason, but it’s located here: http://www.lolcatbible.com/index.php?title=Main_Page It’s all for fun. Probably will encourage people who wouldn’t normally pick up a Bible to look things up that don’t make sense in cat talk. But I don’t think K Thx Bai will replace Amen!

The local news on TV is acting like the Great Blizzard of 2008 has arrived. It looks like our area got a slight dusting of snow and right now we’re having much more dangerous freezing rain! I’ll take snow over ice any day. Yesterday, there was a fatal accident involving an SUV carrying 6 children and an UTZ delivery truck. Sadly the driver was killed. The children and the truck driver were taken to area hospitals. Back in the 80’s when minivans were introduced, I read a consumer alert about them. It may have changed by now, but at the time, the minivans were essentially delivery vans with seats bolted into them. Apparently the safety standards for passenger cars and trucks/vans are different. Our pediatrician’s son was thrown out the back door of a minivan in a crash. He was okay, but how terrifying! Anyhow, around here, I most often see young mothers with kids in the big SUV’s, like Highlanders. I’m wondering if the driver feels safer because of the size of the vehicle, but maybe they’re trickier to drive. They ride higher, more prone to flip, you’re more dependent on mirrors; and you can back up right over the hood of a poor defenseless Hyundai! (and I’m still mad about that- it was my Hyundai!) The safest looking car to me is one of those 80’s vintage Volvos. The station wagon looks like a big safe kid toter! Of course nothing is foolproof when T-boned by a gravel truck!

Culture Update:
We get our Netflix movies 3 at a time, so we tend to watch the three and then wait eagerly for the next delivery. We watched Dear Frankie, a little comedy set in Scotland. It’s about a single mother raising a young son, who has to produce a father to visit, if only for a few days. With handsome broody Gerard Butler before he became King Leonidas! Also, a classic- A Night To Remember from 1958, based on Walter Lord’s book on the Titanic. Filmed in glorious black and white, as Mel Brooks might say! Compared to James Cameron’s romantic drama, this is more the docudrama of the disaster. There’s a lot more emphasis on the actions of Captain Smith and crew. Someone noted that as filmed, it’s almost real time to the way it happened. From the time it hit the iceberg, to the actual sinking was less than 3 hours! If you haven’t seen it, the film is worth watching. As a bonus, my dreamboat, David McCallum, then a very young actor, has a small role in the film. Rounding out the trio was Harry Potter And The Order of the Phoenix. I love Harry Potter, enough said!

Knitting: Of course I am. Still working on the first “Meteor Twist Lacy Mock Cable Sock” Good grief, that sounds like Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Boo-kay) came up with the name! I checked a book out of the library about knitting lace. The jury is out because I want to compare lace knitting, which is way complicated, with crochet, which I think might be faster and easier with similar results. Nice to be able to do both!

Etiquette Question: I don’t know the answer to this one so I invite comment. We’ve been invited to a wedding. A second wedding for both the bride and groom, who are in their forties. The groom says don’t worry about bringing a gift. But no message of that sort came with the invitation. Still, I’d hate to spend our hard earned money for a gift the people don’t need or want. Yet it would be weird going empty handed. Would a bottle of wine (there’s a vineyard near here that makes out of this world raspberry wine!) and a card be out of line?
[I've had a small brainstorm for the next time this comes up: I'm going to crochet some placemats or tablerunners or even my "fun" pillowcases with crocheted edges and start a gift stash!]

David McCallum as in The Man from UNCLE??? I had forgotten all about him! Yes, he was one of my boyfriends as well, back in the 60’s.

Heidi, you’ll have to watch NCIS some Tuesday night. David’s on there playing Dr. “Ducky” Mallard, an interesting, eccentric forensics expert. He’s about 74 yrs old; not a problem for me- he’s the essence of a handsome older man. Still dreamy!
