Alone with half a cake…..

It’s “hiding” in the oven. I didn’t make a feast for the two of us. When I saw what a nice, spiral sliced ham goes for in today’s icky economy, I couldn’t justify the cost for dinner for two. Not to mention it would end up being at least four dinners, and who knows how many sandwiches? I skipped to the delicious end product and got us some nice honey ham for sandwiches this week. Then I made that cake. A lovely sheet cake with yellow frosting and Spring sprinkles! I would have packed some in Michael’s lunch today, but it seems they’re going out for the monthly employee lunch today. So it’s just me and the cake… alone. I’ll probably attack it later.
I had toast for breakfast. When did bread become so high calorie? I’m doing Weight Watchers points and with my coffee (light, 2 sugars) I’m up to 9 points and the day has just begun!

Bowing to the Superior Artist: the winner of the Washington Post Peep Diorama contest is , “The Tomb of King Peepankhamun” I’d post the link but it’s way too long. Go to Washingtonpost.com and search around for Peep Contest 2008. It’s one of their most viewed articles right now. Anyhow, King Peep’s tomb is very clever and definitely a winner!

Internet friends, help me with a Quest! I am trying to find white or ecru plain, “flat-woven” cotton dish or tea towels. Sometimes they’ll have a blue or red stripe on the sides. Yeah, the kind Grandma used to have. I have the cutest set of embroidery transfers “Animated Crockery” and I want to make some retro style towels. The plan was to iron on my transfers and do the designs in simple embroidery. So far, even online shopping, I can’t find plain finished towels. Lots of nice, already decorated towels- clever that machine embroidery. But the whole point was to decorate them myself. I can find the Aida towels for x’stitching, and unfinished “flour sacks”, but no plain towels. Please leave a comment, if you can think of a place that might have them.

Magical Mystery Tour: A fellow blogger, Bad Penguin (funny I don’t even know her name) was asking in her post today for recommends of good mysteries, so I left a comment with a few of my favorites. Such a good idea that I’m lifting it from BP! I’ve mentioned several of my favorites here over the last few months. Anybody have some more suggestions? I prefer an author with a series of books. If it’s a good read, I always want more!

A bit of sad news in Beatlemania: Yesterday there were reports that Paul McC has flown to NYC to be at the bedside of his mate, Neil Aspinall. Neil is at Sloan Kettering, said to be gravely ill with lung cancer. Neil and Paul went to school together in Liverpool, and he has always been there. He started out as their road manager. Neil became the business head of the Apple Records “empire” and ran it nearly 40 years, stepping down a couple of years ago. Edit- It’s on the news services that Neil passed away Sunday night.

Heehee: The Duchess, knowing I’m a bit attention deficit, signed me up for an e-mail that helps me organize my housekeeping duties. Today is supposed to be “declutter the bedroom”, along with the daily chores. Declutter the living room is more like it. Looks too lived in at the moment. Also, I’ve promised Vera a ride in the car later- her favorite! I can do a couple of errands and with her along, I won’t be tempted to go into a store and spend money!
