Dear Reg, butt out!
Elton John, as a performer, is okay. I have some favorite songs. Back during the CB radio era, my “handle” was LA Lady. We even have a “Greatest Hits” cassette around here somewhere.
I’m not sure I like him as a person. He’s a rude guest. Back during the 2004 election he ticked me off with some remarks against President Bush. This election go around he’s planning to headline a big fund raising event for his candidate of choice, Hillary Clinton. As it turns out, we have laws against such things. It’s illegal for a candidate to accept a campaign contribution from a foreign national. It’s a gray area because he’s contributing talent, not money.
I think it’s rude for him to involve himself in our politics. If he feels that strongly about it, he should apply for citizenship. Then he would have just as much voice as any other citizen and could contribute $2300! But he’d have to give up that Sir Elton title. Can you imagine? We have enough trouble with the rich and powerful without giving them titles. Imagine- Grand Omnipotent Baron Richard of Cheney?
Thrown for a Bit of a Loop: Mike went to the doctor yesterday- routine maintenance and some new prescriptions. Actually he’s an “Undoctor”, a physician’s assistant, and he’s the best! As long as he had the cuff out he checked my blood pressure too. I was 180/100- not about to blow an artery, but higher than my previous all-time high, when I was 9 months pregnant with pre-eclampsia. It seems I have joined the “Metabolic Syndrome” club. I’m over 50, gallbladder blew out on me 4 years ago, blood pressure is too high and my fasting glucose is getting “iffy” Crap!
I’m getting checked again next week and if it’s still up, I’ll probably get put on something. Meanwhile what I can do on this end of things is watch the salt and lose weight. Hate that. I’m very good at losing weight- I’ve done it dozens of times. Funny how it always comes back.
I think people should tell you if they’re making money with their blog. This one sure doesn’t. There are blogs out there that get hundreds of views every day, with money generating ads in the side margins. I suppose that originally that’s what the “.com” extension meant- “commercial” Mine is “.net” I get free blogging from the Duchy of Techno-, my daughter and son-in-law’s house! And I get free technical support too- what a deal.
Recently the Duchess helped me add “Library Thing” to my sidebar. It’s pretty neat. You can use it to organize your personal library online, and if you like, make a widget and post book covers on a blog. That’s what I’ve done. All of them are names of books I’ve loved. Some of them are children’s books because they’re nice too. If you click on a book cover, it takes you to Amazon.com. I’m pretty sure the people who created Library Thing get a small payment for the link referral from Amazon.com, but the books on the widget are all ones personally read and recommended by me. Nobody is paying this blog money for the plug.
I do like plugging things though. I do it in the spirit of “hey, this is neat- check it out” Today I’d like to plug iGive.com It’s an online shopping site. Lots of merchants are willing to give donations to the charity of your choice. All you have to do is register on iGive and click through to your merchants of choice through their site. Just by registering, they’ll contribute $5 to whatever group you designate. My “cause” is the Mid-Atlantic Chinese SharPei Rescue Group. I’d love to adopt all of them, but I can’t so I shop on the iGive site. They have big retailers like Macy’s and Sears and lots of small specialty stores. So if I’m shopping, I go to iGive and look and see if I can find a deal through there. I even ordered a refrigerator through the Sears online store- and the wrinkle dogs got their donation! I’ve never had any security issues or problems ordering through the site- their links take you right to the merchants’ websites.
In matters unrelated to anything! Yesterday I was in the grocery store and saw some cookies called “Farfel” Which made me think of this cutie. If you’re my age, you’ll remember Farfel always got to sing “Choccccck-lit”![]()

I just saw Farfel on the History Channel earlier today. He did his whole Choooock-lit bit. There was a program on about chocolate so of course they had him on.
I wonder how many people actually make money on their blogs. I mean I can understand the whole advertising thing, but that seems “iffy” at best. I get between 200 and 400 visitors a day and I have had one offer for advertising, but it was one where they were pretty much going to take over my blog template and they had subject matter restrictions. They weren’t really offering to pay me enough for that.
