Moat to be installed soon!
I want twin beds. If there were a fence between the two beds, perhaps with an electric fence it would be perfect.
All this marital togetherness is going to be the death of me! Back when we were 20 somethings, we were thinner and there was more room in the bed!
It seems to be my misfortune to be warm soft and cuddly, and hubby rolls right up next to me. Then down at the foot of the bed, Vera tugs the blankets just so, makes a little nest and goes off to Dreamland. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve woken up, with about 8 inches of queen-sized bed to call my own, with a cold butt to boot
because the dog stole the blankets!
When I’m awake I think I’m friendly and affectionate.
But at bedtime I’m scary. All I really want is to be kissed goodnight and left alone for six hours or so. I’m just one of those people who figures there’s a time for romance and a time for sleep, and don’t come near me while I’m sleeping. Not that I mean to hurt Mike or Vera’s feelings, but years of lack of space is driving me bonkers.
Today, I’m especially miserable because I have a backache. Near as I can tell I slept in one position all night because I couldn’t roll over! I got stuff to do and all I want to do, is sort of doze and let the kinks get out of my back.
Mike and Vera can call lawyers if they want, but I’m “going on vacation”. I’m going to go sleep in the guest room for few days. I’ve had to do this before. It’s lonely for about ten minutes, then I drift off to Dreamland, with lots of room and plenty of covers! If I’m left alone until about 5 a.m, I’m not nearly so grumpy if somebody wants to lick my face!
Some of you might be wondering where Tesla figures in to this ongoing struggle. He likes to cuddle too. He’s funny- he’ll stretch out lengthwise on the other side of the bed, put his head on the pillow and roll over and give me that “Alone at last My Darling” look of his! When Mike comes to bed, he growls at Tes a few times and Tes will get off the bed. I got a big fluffy dog pillow just for him and put it down on the floor next to the heating vent. Sometimes he flops there, or fairly often, he’ll go lay on top of the guest bed. He doesn’t have to share it with anybody. I envy the dog!
This is probably more than you ever wanted to hear about my sleeping arrangements. I’m thinking of starting a support group, calling it Crowded Spouses!
What is life without Art? Let’s see- I read another book. It’s called Rockville Pike by Susan Coll. I especially recommend if it you live in Maryland or have lived in the DC area. It’s a woman’s family comedy/drama: A lady at midlife, her husband saddled with a failing family business and a teenager with gothic tendancies. There’s a big intersection where The Pike runs together with Aspen Hill Road and right at the internection, up on a small hill, there’s a big Catholic church with a small graveyard out back. In the graveyard, right smack in the midst of the traffic noise, with the Metro trains whooshing by in the background, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda were laid to rest. It’s one of those metaphors for Modern Life that whacks you over the head with the irony! Ms. Coll noticed that too.
I‘m not sure if it was meant to be funny but I watched the comparatively new film. Love In The Time of Cholera Just by the title I was expecting something heavy. Actually it was amusing and a bit of a farce. A tale of the small space still holding romance in reserve against the sordid face of reality. (wow, I sound like a movie critic!) I laughed out loud a few times!

When husband and I were first married we slept on a double bed. I was much thinner then. It was a temporary arrangment, though, and only lasted about 3 months. Then we went to a king. Ohhh, I love our king bed. We’ve had that for over 8 years, now, except for when we moved into my parents house before they moved out and had to sleep in a queen. Now that was an adjustment, especially since I’ve put on some pounds since we were married. Took us a couple months to get used to the queen and now, as of last Friday, we are back on our lovely large king with room to spread out. Ah, it’s the best. The new doggie, “little one” as we call her, is spoiled and sleeps inbetween us. Which is usually fine with me because it means I get to sleep all night too without any “interruptions”, LOL. But sometimes it is nice to have an interruption.

Hi, over from Chiadas’ place (we’re friends IRL) - my hubby and I have been on queen beds our whole marriage, but we’re both pretty short and we’ve always slept happily back-to-back (although I’ll cop to being the “interupter” rather than the “interupt..ed” - with pride). Currently, there are two cats who allow us to sleep in ‘thier’ bed. I sleep in a sort of walking-like-an-Egyptian position so as to accomodate his and her Royal Highnesses.
