The Beat Goes On

Another technological leap! Netflix offers a “Watch Now” service and I finally used it. Watched the first two episodes of the “new” Doctor Who on the computer. I sat in the computer desk chair working on the sock I just started. Pretty cool. Our monitor is about five years old, and it’s probably obsolete. But it’s the one we have for now even if I do hope we’ll get one of those big flat screen jobbies someday! For Internetting and now video watching apparently.
I see the day coming when “The TV” will be gone. We’ll just have a big screen that will do all sorts of things- movies, computing, video games, etc. Lots of the networks stream programs online these days. So do a lot of the radio stations. (I really enjoy that-no more crappy radio reception!) Just as long as those communication satellites are up there blinking away to beam the signals down to us. :-)

Speaking of satellites, Did you know that there is an Engineer’s Hymn? It’s called “God of Concrete, God of Steel” I learned about it from one of our Scottish ministers years ago. I bring it up because I can’t think of another song that mentions satellites, (unless you count “Telstar” which was instrumental anyhow) If you’d like to hear it, here’s a link to an mp3 of it: http://www.godofconcrete.org/god-of-concrete.mp3

Hillary Clinton Has Found a Signature Color: I’m just observing.Nancy Reagan had her vivid red. Barbara Bush wore her royal blue. Laura Bush seems to wear earth tones a lot. A couple of months ago, a journalist observed that Hillary’s people needed to find ways to soften her image- black, navy & charcoal power suits being so 80’s! Lately she’s wearing turquoise fairly often. Not a bad choice at that. It’s vivid, but not considered a girly color. Suits her coloring. I noticed she was wearing it again last night.

Passing of Al Wilson. I heard about this yesterday. He was 68. * His sound was soulful and big band at the same time; kind of like Blood, Sweat & Tears. His big hit was “Show and Tell” in 1973. “Whoa whoa, Show and Tell, is just a game I play…when I want to say I love you (I love you)” Some years before that he recorded one of my all-time favorite songs, “The Snake”. I’ve read more than one book about Co-Dependency. Oddly enough, this little song conveys the whole point - don’t be bringing home snakes! Here’s a link to the song on YouTube- this one is not so much a video, as it is a good recording on the song itself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_ZBqpEUbik

* I was thinking about typing in R.I.P. but I can’t visualize Al Wilson sitting on a cloud, or pushing up daisies. I think I’m going to start saying R.O., for Rock On !

I noticed Hillary’s turquoise too. It looks good on her.
