I forget which rule number it is….

but a very important rule around here- don’t get too friendly with the wildlife. For example, Spring is here and there are lots of cute bunnies. But I don’t spend too much time watching them because I’m just as likely to see a hawk swoop down and grab one for dinner! Saddest thing that’s happened around here is a couple of years ago a little fawn tried to jump the fence and broke both front legs. I had to call Animal Control to come out, and sad to say, they carry a rifle for such circumstances. So I love nature and try not to do any harm, but it’s a live and let live sort of relationship.

Well, the wildlife decided to see how we live! About a half hour ago I decided it was bedtime and went to the bathroom to get ready. I look down and first I see the long tail, then the gray fur and I would have been screaming RRRRAAAAAATTTTTTT!!! but it wasn’t moving. Upon closer examination, I found out it was one of these little guys.

And you know how baby anything is cute? It was really cute, but the poor thing seemed hurt, laying with it’s back legs out and probably dying. Probably got in a tussle with one of the dogs. Vera would just think it was a new toy, but could have hurt it some way.
Now I know this is sex discrimination, but I think my husband should be in charge of varmit removal. So I woke him up, explained that there was a wild animal in the bathroom and he would have to deal with it. My hero! He sort of eased the little possum onto the dustpan, and put him in the front flower bed.

Nothing would make me happier than not finding it in the same place tomorrow. Hopefully he was just “playing possum” and will be on his way!

Important Environmental Update! I went out this morning and couldn’t find a little ‘possum in the flower bed. At this point, I’ll hope he got over his fright and went off to join the rest of the wild critters.
