Where to wind up?

I like to plan. All my plans make the future look bright.

I found a site called FindYourSpot.com. You take a comprehensive quiz and it tells you the best place to retire. Questions about lifestyle, leisure time, your sports interests and lets you prioritize. I would like affordable housing (well yeah), some access to the arts and don’t care if I ever, ever see snow again. The downside was it did ask for personal info, but I thought it a fair trade in exchange for my test results- go ahead and send me junk mail if you must. (I just checked it and the site is down for maintenance, so I hope they get it back up soon- in case you’re curious)

And the winner was….BISBEE, Arizona http://www.discoverbisbee.com Founded 100 or so years ago, as a copper, turquoise and lots of other minerals, mining boom town. So the town is a mix of Victorian and modern. And (sigh!) it has those loverly high desert clouds. Has a radio station that bills itself as “Radio Free Bisbee” I bet it’s the sort of place that the kids can’t wait to leave, but where old people like me visit and say, “Isn’t this nice? And my bones don’t hurt for some reason!”

Looking around for pictures of Bisbee to show you. Drat! Not too many in the public domain. I found one of an open pit copper mine . Interesting, but it doesn’t give you the “flavor” of the place

This is a nice photo somebody posted to Flickr. Look at that blue true sky! And I found one of a Spartan Mansion! My first little aluminum home! Remember my little poem at Christmastime?

This little guy is a Roadrunner (not the car) They live in Arizona too!

Not alone for gold and silver
Is Arizona great.
But with graves of heroes sleeping,
All the land is consecrate!
O, come and live beside us
However far ye roam
Come and help us build up temples
And name those temples “home.”

(Verse 3, Arizona State Song)

I used to wonder why people would want to retire in Arizona. I understand it now. Maybe it’s an age thing?

Hi Mike- The last time I was in Las Vegas, July 2003 and it was at least 110 degrees- even at night! Hot as that was, my sinuses and throat were completely clear (something that never happens here) and nothing hurt! I could absolutely become a sun dried lizard lady.
