I knew the music, but not the writer

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Songwriter Ellie Greenwich has passed on- a heart attack at age 68. She and her former husband, Jeff Barry, wrote an amazing number of hit records in the early 60’s: http://www.elliegreenwich.com/musicography.htm
They wrote the soundtrack for a whole generation. RIP, Ellie

CORN!
Well, when I write the year-end garden review I’ll tell you more about it. It just hasn’t been a bountiful year for gardening in the Eastern US- too wet and too many bugs!
I picked about 25 ears today. They’re kind of starchy because they didn’t get sunshine and warmth at the right time.
.By popular demand, [...]

We’ve had a few of these cuties flying around the yard the last couple of days:We don’t get too many hummingbirds around here. They’re probably pretty smart and realize I don’t have one of those “nectar” feeders. The one I saw today was the prettiest green and seemed to enjoy munching on coleus flowers.

Dancin’ Friday

From 1962! A big hit on the scratchy ol’ AM Radio. Kind of hard to dance to- a slow cha cha? Or maybe a “dirty’ fox trot with lots of dipping!

Have to you show you the picture of the day from Wikimedia! It’s from the Library of Congress and I cropped it a bit to fit the page here.

This is a Dagestani couple in 1905. Dagestan is a region in the Caucasus region of Southern Russia. There are several indigenous groups of people and there [...]

after the Corona Beer guy

You know, apart from that “former head of the KGB, leader of the Great Northern Bear” baggage, Vlad is kind of a hunk. You remember Khan from Star Trek? Kind of like that.
On the LOL site where I found this pic, every Saturday is Vladurday!

and tell her I’m having a clearance sale on compact hybrid coaches!

These are the “Squmpkins” I picked this morning. That’s a fair rendering of their color- sunny, not quite orange. They look like lemons on steroids, They have ridges like pumpkins.
They were fruitful and multiplied. Anything that color has gotta be full of vitamins and [...]

In other news….

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

since I’m not normally a political blog- and because I’m waiting for my hair to dry before I go run a few errands, I looked up “this day in history” The Saint of the Day is St. Louis de Toulouse. A great leader in his day and a bishop at the age of 21!
A lot [...]

Remember the axiom….

“I’m from the Government, I’m here to help”  Yeah, right.
The current controversy has awakened Middle America.. I watched some of Arlen Specter’s explosive appearance up on PA. Regular old, non politically active people (like me most of the time) are mad as hell. Our leaders appear flummoxed at the idea that the working, tax paying [...]
