That went quickly….

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

this time ten years ago, it was the day of turnover to The Third  Millennium. For months and months, people had been fretting about Y2K, crossing their fingers that the “patches” on computer systems throughout the world would take hold, and we wouldn’t be plunged into chaos at Midnight. One good thing was it made [...]

Well, I was wrong…..

All  the lovely snow is gone. After our White Christmas on Friday, down came the rain and washed the snow away. It’s as muddy as March right now. Cold too- the wind is blowing and golly feels like Winter or something!
I hope you had a nice Christmas or Friday off, whichever you prefer. Ours had [...]

DVD “Film” Review

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I adored Julie & Julia. Makes sense because I adored Julia Child. Ho hum, Meryl Streep is going to get another Oscar nomination- I think they may as well make up a platinum statue for her! Stanley Tucci is amazing as Paul Child. Nora Ephron (”Sleepless in Seattle”) directs.
So yeah, watch it!

The Perfect Snowstorm

Monday, December 21st, 2009

We really lucked out. South and East of here, along the ocean, there was a Nor’Easter, with blizzard force winds. But here in Central Maryland, it was a big dump of snow of the very best kind. The dry powder skiers love. No wet slush stuff to knock the power lines down. Luckily, we all [...]

The Tiger Woods business has erupted into a full-blown feeding frenzy for the press. So, how is the  epidemic in Ukraine? What happened in Kandahar today? The media is tabling the “real” news in favor of a rather sad meltdown by a sports figure.
My daughter had a very favorite movie when she was a litle [...]

Yay- a Christmas play!

Friday, December 11th, 2009

We have tickets to go see “A Christmas Carol” at the Weinberg.
We like to find a concert or a show to see this time of year. I saw it years ago at a dinner theatre with the Brownie troop, but I don’t think Pyrate has ever seen it on stage. To date my favorite [...]

Five Minute Field Trip

Okay, everybody on the bus, we’re going to the Candy Cane Factory! I love watching how things are made.

Isn’t that cool?

Cowabunga!

I don’t surf; I can barely swim. But growing up in Southern California, I learned my surf culture! I can sing nearly every Jan and Dean song by heart. You know how kids come near a piano and start banging out “Heart and Soul”? Where I grew up, the kids would play “Pipeline!” And [...]

Older than Oldies

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

The other day my daughter and I were talking about radio in general. She said something about radio being on the way out. I think I agree. I know younger people who never listen to radio because they have fully loaded digital players. (I wonder what they do for local news and weather)  Anymore if [...]
